John Wood Spoils Sophomore Night for Sandburg Volleyball

John Wood spoiled the Carl Sandburg College volleyball team’s Sophomore Night, sweeping the Chargers 25-19, 25-22, 25-19 on Friday at John M. Lewis Gymnasium.

Freshman Megan Crome (Marshall, Ill./Marshall) finished one kill away from matching her season-high, totaling eight for the Chargers (7-8). Carley Reeves-Eakins (Branson, Mo./Reeds Spring) had team-bests of 11 kills, 13 digs and an ace for Sandburg. Gracie Rademaker (Green Valley, Ill./Midwest Central) had two blocks and an ace, and setter Carmyn Baldwin (Lewistown, Ill./Lewistown) handed out 23 assists.

The Blazers took control of the first set with a 5-0 run for a 16-8 lead. Sandburg trailed by as many as eight points in the second before cutting the lead to 23-22, but John Wood took the final two points of the set. Tied at 17 in the third, the Blazers won eight of the last 10 points, including the final five in a row.

UP NEXT FOR SANDBURG
The Chargers will host Bryant & Stratton in a quarterfinal match in the Region IV tournament at 5 p.m. Monday. A bracket and scores for the tournament will be posted on the Region IV website.
